Working out during pregnancy

Before becoming pregnant I used to see so many Instagram fit pregnancies and wanted to do the same when I eventually became pregnant. Well here I am 29 weeks pregnant and I am sticking to it!

So here is a break down of my trying to be fit pregnancy journey so far…..

The first trimester

I’m not going to lie it was hard, especially in the first 8 -10 weeks. During that time all I wanted to do was eat and sleep. I found myself coming in from work and just collapsing on the bed. My fiancé would come in and ask me what was wrong, why I didn’t want to work out and I couldn’t really explain it. I had no energy and felt completely drained during that time. it was slightly frustrating because pre pregnancy I had been working out 4-5 times a week, playing netball, going to the gym, swimming, yoga and was always very active. During those first couple of weeks all I could bring myself to do was maybe 2 days a week in the gym on the weekends.

The second trimester

Once I has passed 10 weeks I was back to feeling pretty normal again. I was managing to work out at least 4 times a week and it felt good to be back to working out.

I was lifting similar weights to what I was able to do before pregnancy but the main difference I noticed was being out of breathe a lot quicker and not being able to do certain exercises like weighted hip thrusters! This was my favourite part so far I think.

The Third Trimester

I am only two/three weeks into this part of pregnancy so I guess it’s a bit too early to comment.

So far I have managed 3-4 times a week working out. I have lowered the weights used to squat a bit and I am finding it a bit more awkward and difficult to deadlift so I have lowered the weights used for this.

So far so good and I’m hoping to post some workouts soon!
